For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: ~ Romans 8:3 -KJV
The law in previous chapters of the book of Romans, and especially here in Chapter 8 verse 3 is declared a failure in regard to actually creating holiness in people. Consider how air is used to lift an airplane. If the plane lacks the power to react with the energy necessary of accomplish the lift – it stalls and crashes. This is not the fault of the air molecules. In a similar way, the law, that was send to lift, in stead, indirectly brought the undesired result of death. In the previous Chapter, Paul states “Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful. …“ ~ Romans 7:12-13 -KJV
As far as accomplishing righteousness in us goes, the law falls desperately short. But the good news is – there is overwhelmingly sufficient lifting power for each of us in the resurrection life of God’s own Son, Jesus Christ.
