Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you. ~ Romans 1:10 -KJV
Here is an example of Paul’s sovereign-oriented perspective that we can learn from in purposing to go or to accomplish goals and Kingdom-serving initiatives. Paul openly acknowledges unseen and unknowable aspects and details which Sovereign God is no doubt infinitely apprised of at all times. These are the very things that we would usually have no way of knowing. We are generally required to move ahead without knowing all those details. Paul adds qualifiers in His statement: “(if), (by any means), (at length), (I might)”, while at the same time humbly aiming to go to a place “(by the will of God)”.
In attempting to discern the will of God we must avoid the trap of worshipping clarity. This is a sort of hyper-spiritualized over-cognating regarding faith-based initiatives. It usually leaves you frozen in a suspended in a state of hyper-analysis. I know this because I have personally participated in this kind of mental traffic jamming.
Go ahead and make a decision… if it’s the wrong one, God can have you make another one to correct your earlier decision. Not moving because of an overweening sense of spiritual perfectionism may be a form of stubbornness or passive disobedience. We must move ahead based on what we do know, what we have peace with, and what the revealed will of God is. We must trust that He will guide, guard and redirect us on our journey as we continue to cry out in all earnestness for His continued guidance.
